How to Host an Apartment Labor Day Party

As always, the promise of an endless summer is fading and the last fleeting sunset of the season is nearly here. But before you say goodbye to your swimsuit and tan, you still have one last summer celebration. It may not get the glory of the more festive holidays, but Labor Day is a unique event to cherish and a great way to unwind with some friends. So before you gather everyone for the “last” weekend of the summer, take a look at our Labor Day party planning advice and make it a time you'll never forget.
Setting an Apartment Party Budget
If you spent your college years learning how to survive on ramen, you'll do just fine setting a budget for your Labor Day celebration. All your Labor Day party needs is food, cold drinks, ice, some serving supplies, and a little fuel for the barbecue. Stick to the Labor Day staples like burgers and hot dogs, and make it a BYOD (bring your own drinks) party to keep everyone happy while saving yourself some cash.
Getting Supplies Back to Your Apartment
Let's say, for instance, you live in one of our apartments in Boston. Lugging back all of those supplies you need can be quite the chore. So, before wandering out to purchase your goodies, create a plan, decide on a route and enlist a few extra pairs of hands. Also, write down and double-check your list because you don't want to head back out to grab some last minute supplies as your guests arrive. If you want to be extra safe, do your shopping a day ahead of the party.
Have a Backup Party Plan
Even if the weather forecaster is predicting a 99% chance of sun, nothing can ruin the summer celebration at your Labor Day party like some rain. If you're hosting a barbecue, make sure you have a back-up plan for food preparation if your grilling area isn't covered. You'll also want to make sure to create plenty of space inside your apartment – any non-essential furniture can be temporarily placed in a bedroom or closet – so you can fit all of your closest and newest friends inside the living areas.
With a little planning you can have the perfect Labor Day apartment party. So send off your last summer weekend in style with some good food, drinks and even better memories. Just remember it is a holiday, and the entire point of Labor Day is to relax!
