Snag Some of the Best Italian Food near Avalon Bloomingdale at Lina’s Ristorante

Locally owned Lina’s Ristorante has long been a Bloomingdale favorite for its food, which locals call exceptionally tasty and very well-priced. Try the cold antipasto, the fettucini Alfredo, the chicken francese, or the veal Rossini.

Lina’s is a popular choice for local catering, and its large dining room makes it a great venue for parties and other large group functions. Regulars say the appetizer specials are particularly good. Earn a Spot on the Wall of Flame at Fri Guyz, Not Far From Avalon Bloomingdale

Few have succeeded in becoming a Wall of Flame inductee through Fri Guyz’s Ghost Pepper Wing Challenge. Located just a short way from Avalon Bloomingdale, Fri Guyz has enticed many Bloomingdale locals to attempt the challenge: eating 12 mega-spicy ghost pepper wings within 10 minutes. Fri Guyz awards winners by paying for their wings, posting their picture on the "Hall of Flame," and giving them a $20 gift card. The bad news is that if you lose, your picture will be plastered on the Wall of Shame.

If you’d rather have a meal sans the added pressure, you can enjoy Fri Guyz wings without the challenge. Along with ghost pepper wings, the restaurant also features 13 different sauces for their Kickin’ Chicken Wings, which include an Italian dry rub, maple barbecue, Jamaican jerk, and sriracha. Fri Guyz also serves a variety of steaks, chicken steak sandwiches, and gluten-free entrees.

Zorbas Greek Restaurant: Bring Your Own Bottle From Avalon Bloomingdale

Longtime Bloomingdale-area residents Vassils and Angela Xilouris wanted to share Greek cuisine and culture, so they opened Zorbas Greek Restaurant. Inspired by the family taverns found in Greece, they created a hospitable place that serves Greek dishes such as gyros, kebabs, and spanakopita.

Enhance your order by making it a platter and you’ll also get a Greek salad, potato or vegetable, and garnish of tomatoes, cucumbers, pita bread, and tzatziki sauce. Young eaters can try a kid-sized gyro, while picky eaters can fill up on chicken fingers or hot dogs. Dessert options include baklava or ekmek, a custard-filled pastry topped with whipped cream and almonds. You can enjoy a beverage you find on the menu or bring in your own refreshment as Zorbas is BYOB. So, make sure to either leave Avalon Bloomingdale a bit early to hit the wine and spirits store, or bring a bottle from your collection at home.

The restaurant’s warm decor helps one feel like they are eating on the streets of Greece with walls painted like the exterior of a neighborhood building.
