Treebeards Near Memorial Heights Villages: A Successful Southern Restaurant Born of Humble Beginnings

When the first Treebeards opened on Houston's Preston Street in 1978, it wasn't exactly a showstopper. The restaurant resided in a former pool hall. Its neighbors were a notoriously loud bar and a peep-show arcade. Customers were willing to look past all this, though, and before long, Treebeards had moved to a much larger (and more legitimate) location. Today, Treebeards has actually branched out into a few locations around Houston, including one near Memorial Heights Villages on Travis Street.

Come see why this local restaurant enjoys so much popularity among Houstonians. Its mix of classic Southern and Cajun fare never seems to disappoint. Don't skip the appetizers here, as they include duck or chicken gumbo, red beans and rice, and even shrimp etouffee. Just make sure you save room for one of the daily specials: meatloaf, pork chops, or catfish, to name a few. Of course, you can always get fried chicken with gravy, a Southern staple that Treebeards' chefs craft each day.

The Breakfast Klub Near Memorial Heights Villages in Houston Garners National Attention for its American Fare

USA Today, Forbes Magazine, Esquire, and Good Morning America have all sung the praises of The Breakfast Klub in Houston since it first opened in 2001. The Breakfast Klub has also won over the people of Houston, racking up more than 1,500 Yelp reviews an an average of four out of five stars.

It all started with two specialty dishes: the "katfish" and grits, and the wings and waffles. Those were the main focus of founder Marcus Davis' earliest menu. They still reign as the most popular dishes at The Breakfast Klub today—and the "katfish" and grits foreshadows a noticeable lack of C's throughout the menu. Wash down your food with some "koffee" or a "kafe au lait" (or one of the espresso drinks). In addition to breakfast, this popular Houston eatery also dishes out sandwiches, salads, and other light fare for lunch. So if you're hankering for some American food at Memorial Heights Villages, make the quick trek to The Breakfast Klub.
