Lynnwood Farmers Market Starts June 12

Explore some of Lynnwood’s finest local vendors, crafters and artists by attending the annual Lynnwood Farmers Market. Scheduled to start June 12, 2014, this weekly event near Avalon Alderwood provides you with the perfect opportunity to stock the kitchen with fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables, or to try some tasty jams and sweet treats.

What You Will Find at the Lynnwood Farmers Market Every year, the Lynnwood Farmers Market welcomes over 30 different vendors. All vendors are based around Western Washington, so you will be supporting the local economy by interacting and shopping through these vendors! Some of the items that will be available for purchase from vendors include:

  • Fruits and Vegetables
  • Handmade Jewelry
  • Jams
  • Baked Goods
  • Kettlecorn
  • Sculptures and Paintings

In addition to these wonderful vendors, there will also be food trucks selling tasty treats. Stop by one of the many food trucks and enjoy a quick snack or treat yourself to a delicious dinner. Spring is tough to beat in the beautiful Northwest. What better way to enjoy this glorious season than with a walk along one of the amazing trails in Lynnwood or a stop at some of the parks that are near Avalon Alderwood.

The city of Lynnwood has over 100 acres of natural open space, 230 acres of well-maintained parks, and 14 miles of trails. That leaves you with plenty of choices when it comes to finding a beautiful place to sit outside and relax.

The Scriber Creek Trail
Located at Scriber Lake Park and a block from the Lynnwood Transit Center (44th Avenue West)

Feel as if you have walked into a scene from the Secret Garden with a trip to Scriber Creek Trail. This 1.5 soft surface/asphalt trail twists and turns through a preserved wildlife habitat. There are plenty of opportunities to view amazing wildlife that come and visit the wetlands.

After strolling along the trails, consider stopping for a brief bite to eat. There are park benches along Scriber Lake that offer amazing views and Scriber Creek Park has a small picnic area.

The 164th St. Artesian Well

Right across the street from Avalon Alderwood lies a secret – and well hidden – source of amazing spring water. The Artesian Well is a free, public well that allows people to gather and enjoy the amazing taste of natural spring water. The well is open 24/7 and requires that you bring your own bottles to fill.

Heritage Park

Heritage Park is the cultural center of Lynnwood. It provides almost 3 acres of wide open land that is perfect for picnics, playing in the park, or walking/jogging.

There is a walking tour that you can take part in that will take you by all the amazing, historical landmarks and other park amenities. Enjoy walking by an old, Interurban Car or seeing the Water Tower, which are part of this amazing park.

Celebrate Food and Healthy Eating at the 2014 Celebration of Food Festival

Spend an afternoon learning valuable tips on how to grow and cook healthy meals for your entire family by taking part in the Celebration of Food Festival 2014, an event just a short drive from the community at Avalon Alderwood.

Hosted by Edmonds Community College and The Food Revolution Snohomish County, this one day food festival will provide you with everything needed to start eating right. Listen to presentations from local experts, watch cooking demonstrations, and enjoy browsing food, cooking utensils, and other supplies from local vendors at this beautiful food festival.

Scheduled Events for the 2014 Celebration of Food Festival
One of the favored events at the Celebration of Food Festival is the cooking demonstrations that are held throughout the day. These cooking demonstrations show you how to create quick, easy meals/snacks that are healthy for the entire family.

Some of the meals or dishes highlighted during the cooking demonstration include:

  • Broccoli Slaw Salad
  • Cherry Chicken Wraps
  • Spring Vegetable Couscous
  • Multi-Grain/Seed/Fruit Scones

Each dish will be demonstrated twice throughout the day. Cooking demos start at 11:00 a.m. and run every half hour until 3:00 p.m.

In addition to cooking demonstrations, there will be a number of presentations from local experts on all types of topics. Topics range from gardening tips to nutritional information for those with food allergies.

Some of the presentations scheduled for the 2014 festival include:

  • The Sustainable Kitchen
  • Clean Food Choices: A Holistic Perspective
  • Food Allergies and Sensitivities: Fact and Fiction

The Celebration of Food Festival provides families with a unique opportunity to introduce children to the wonders and joy of healthy eating. There are a number of vendors, children’s activities, and interactive exhibits that allow children and adults to learn more about how food is grown, prepared, and used in a number of your favorite meals. The Celebration of Food Festival is scheduled for May 18, 2014. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the event will end at 4:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Lynnwood Convention Center, located at 3711 196th St. SW, and is free to the public.

The Spotted Cow has a rustic vibe and even has a stage for performances by local musicians. Their menu is full of quirky names like the Cowpuccino, which is a creamy espresso drink, and the Minty Manure, a delightful mint and chip ice cream. The Spotted Cow is located in the nearby Mill Creek so be sure to trek on over and give them a try.

You won’t be disappointed in the fine Viennese drinks and attitude of The Vienna Coffee Company. Today we’re catching up with Amanda Applebee, the community manager for one of Lynnwood’s newest luxury communities, Avalon Alderwood.

Amanda grew up in the Lynnwood area and has been in the multi-family industry for 7 years, 5 of them spent with AvalonBay. When she’s not spending time with her family, you can find her swimming, playing soccer, or watching football. (Go Seahawks!) What do you love about living in Lynnwood?
What I love about living in Lynnwood is having convenient access to Alderwood Mall Shopping, restaurants of all kinds, and a short commute to the east side (Bellevue) or Downtown Seattle.

How long have you lived in Lynnwood?
I have lived in Lynnwood for 22 years

Lynnwood is very close to Seattle; are you a big Seahawks fan?
Absolutely! 12th Man – Go Hawks – Super Bowl 48!

What makes Avalon Alderwood a great place to live?
The location, the quality of the homes, the numerous options to best fit any lifestyle, and the amazing amenities ( 24hr – 2 Story Fitness center and Resort Style Pool). The associates at this community are all about customer service and creating a sense of community for our residents.

What’s your favorite thing to do near the community?
My favorite thing to do is eat (Indigo and Menchies) and go shopping (Alderwood Mall and DSW). During the warmer months I love to go swimming at Martha Lake just down the road.

Are there any exciting upcoming plans that you can share about Avalon Alderwood?
Avalon Alderwood is opening our fitness center early May and our fantastic pool in June!
