AvalonBay Named to CR Magazine’s 100 Best Corporate Citizen List
For the first time ever, AvalonBay Communities has been named to the CR Magazine 100 Best Corporate Citizens list. The list documents 260 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data points of disclosure and performance measures—harvested from publicly available information in seven categories: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, governance, finance, and philanthropy & community support. The list ranks the Russell 1000 Index, and AvalonBay is proud to have joined this list which ranks companies based on their publicly available ESG data.
NAREIT LEADER IN THE LIGHT AWARD
NAREIT's annual Leader in the Light Awards honor NAREIT member companies that have demonstrated superior and sustained sustainability practices. In 2015 we were again the proud recipient of the NAREIT Residential Leader in the Light Award. This is the highest achievement for all residential REIT’s and real-estate companies, and reflects our commitment to social and environmental sustainability.
GLOBAL REAL ESTATE SUSTAINABILITY BENCHMARK (GRESB)
AvalonBay participated for the sixth year in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). With continued strong performance, in 2015 we were a sector leader in both the U.S. and globally. GRESB again named us a "GreenStar", and gave us high marks for our management, policy & disclosure, risks & opportunities, performance indicators, stakeholder engagement and driving sustainability in our new construction and major renovations. Our ranks in these areas were all well above our peer average. In early 2016 we became a member of GRESB.
ENERGY STAR PARTNER
AvalonBay is proud to be an ENERGY STAR Partner. We are committed to environmental sustainability and embed it across the enterprise, from design and construction to the operation of our apartment communities. In partnering with ENERGY STAR we plan to grow that commitment and take advantage of the depth of expertise and resource that they provide.
In 2014 AvalonBay joined ENERGY STAR®’s Certification Nation with the addition of five new ENERGY STAR certified communities. These communities, representing both older and newer buildings, are an example of our commitment to improve our energy and water efficiency across the portfolio.
MSCI GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY INDEX SERIES
AvalonBay is a constituent of the MSCI Global Sustainability Index Series. The MSCI Global Sustainability index series include companies with high environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings relative to their peers. MSCI Inc., is a leading provider of global benchmark indexes and has over 500 equity and fixed income ESG indexes.
ECPI Indices Constituent
In 2015 AvalonBay became a constituent of ECPI indices, a status we maintained through 2017. ECPI is a leading rating and index company dedicated to environmental, social and governance research since 1997. ECPI indices are used for benchmarking, thematic investment, risk management purposes and to create index-tracking investment strategies or ETF’s.
ENR TOP 100 GREEN BUILDING CONTRACTORS
AvalonBay is ranked 52 on the ENR Top 100 Green Building Contractor List 2017. The list tracks annual contracting revenue from projects registered with and actively seeking sustainable-design standards certification from 3rd-party ratings groups such as USGBC and LEED.
STOXX GLOBAL ESG LEADERS INDICES
AvalonBay is pleased to have been included in the STOXX Global ESG Leaders indices. The STOXX ESG index families include companies that are leaders in terms of environmental, social and governance criteria.
EURONEXT VIGEO EIRIS INDEX US 50
In 2017, for the second straight year, AvalonBay has been included in the Euronext Vigeo index US 50. The index distinguishes the 50 most advanced companies in the US region based on their environmental, social and governance performance. Companies included in this index have achieved the highest scores based on the review of up to 330 ESG indicators assessed by the agency following the Equitics methodology.
