Leadership

Matthew H. Birenbaum serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer of Vivmark Residential, with responsibility for accelerating the Company's development investments, chairing the Management Investment Committee, and overseeing design and construction.

Prior to the formation of Vivmark, Mr. Birenbaum served as Chief Investment Officer of AvalonBay Communities from January 2015, overseeing investment strategy, development, construction, and market research. Before that, he served as AvalonBay's Executive Vice President—Corporate Strategy from 2011 to 2015. Prior to rejoining AvalonBay in 2011, he was the founding principal of Abbey Road Property Group, LLC, a multifamily development and investment firm, and before that a Senior Vice President at EYA. Earlier in his career, he served as a Regional Vice President of Development at AvalonBay.

Mr. Birenbaum is a member of ULI and is certified LEED-AP. He has served on the Board, including as past Chairman, of True Ground Housing Partners, a leading affordable housing non-profit in the Greater Washington area. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and his Master's Degree from The Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, where he graduated with honors.
