Take a Whole Charcoal-Broiled Chicken Back to Avalon Ballston Square, Courtesy of Arlington's El Pollo Rico

A faded yellow sign and nondescript brick storefront are the only indications that you've found El Pollo Rico in Arlington. Don't let the unimpressive aesthetic—both inside and outside the restaurant—turn you off to the eatery, though. One Yelp reviewer posts a photo of a line stretching from the counter all the way to the back of the restaurant—and he notes that this is typical of El Pollo Rico. If that ringing endorsement for the casual take-out joint isn't enough to impress you, then perhaps the nearly 1,000 glowing Yelp reviews will be.

Reviewers particularly rave about the steak fries, but they're a mere accompaniment to El Pollo Rico's signature charcoal-broiled chicken. You can pick up an entire feast for the family and take it back to Avalon Ballston Square. The Family Deal includes one of the chickens, plus three large sides and eight sauces. However, El Pollo Rico also offers smaller meals for dine-in, delivery, or take-out.
